Jaisalmer is an important location on two routes connecting India with Persia, Egypt and farther west.  However, the rulers at Jaisalmer in 1293 due to their taxation policy enraged Turkic ruler of Delhi Ala-ud-din- Khiliji that he razed the entire city to be deserted and come into the notice when Rawal Sahal Singh acknowledged the supremacy of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. After the decline of Mughal’s in 18th century, Jaisalmer came under the supremacy of Marathas and further subjugated by British East India Company.

This historic city, an important trade route to India and central Asia has an average height of 229 meters and situated close to India and Pakistan border in West Rajasthan. Jaisalmer mostly is a sandy area and partly a part of Thar Desert.
